Happy 5th Anniversary 2004!!!

2nd April 2009... I am 3010259 Brigade Commander Ahmad Muadz Ahmad Shuhaili. 8 months before commissioning day (19 Dec 2009.. InsyaAllah)... Today is a special day... What so Special? Last 5 years, I was a new cadet in (Akademi Tentera Malaysia) ATMA (Upgraded to UPNM in 2006). It is already 5 years my fellow engineering cadets!!! The 5 years of sweet and tear memories we have shared. Ummmp!

Offer Letter

I registered on 2nd April 2004 after I have finished my matriculation study at Londang, Malacca. I scored 3.79 in physical science and I managed to get my sixth option in university application (Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering at UTM Skudai). I knew that even I scored 4 flat in matriculation, there was no guarantee that I will enroll to university with my desired course. What a heavy competition! I chose ATMA instead of UTM Skudai because of ATMA also offered degree program collaboration with UTM. The special with ATMA is it offers 'free' degree and fortunately ATMA pays you for studying here. Alhamdulillah, I knew how hard to study without stable financial support and dependant to parents as to bank in cash monthly. Now, it is free and no PTPTN at all, but I must 'pay' it with being a soldier. It’s Okay. Experience is a good teacher in our life.

Skema Ayam... Hahah

My foundation year was a tough year. So many baris(parade), fatik (cooperation work?), Taji@comisyen(extra PT) and many more. I knew some actions taken by my seniors were illegal in armed forces (i.e. man handling), but then, just close the case for the sake of senior is always right. hahah. (tak askar lah kalau tak boleh kena physical contact) Actually, I know, soldier is about you learn something through hardship. Alhamdulillah, I survived my foundation year with CGPA 3.92. I repeated my matriculation syllabus, which was why I managed to score.

Kinabalu Expedition

After my first single service training (SST), I enrolled in 1st year Degree in Electrical (Computer) engineering. What so special in this year? We had our 1st junior. No heavy fatik yet. I was very awkward at first when my junior greet me with 'TUAN'(Sir). Moreover, I used to be a platoon commander during my SST. It was a great experience. Side roll, star jump, forward roll until 'muntah hijau'(vommit), learn how to use weapon, styer, minimi, mortar 60mm, GPMG and many more. I know, I will not have this experience if I study at other Institution. We will appreciate our life after going many difficulties 'Bukan senang nak senang Bukan susah nak susah'

Mess Night Committee

In ATMA, I can classify stage of cadet according to their year. Foundation year=Bloody Junior, First Year = Junior, second year = Intermediate, Third year = Senior and Forth year = Super senior. When I was at intermediate stage, life was 'heaven' (pleasurable). I had 2 layers of juniors and two bars at my epaulet. I was given the confidence to be a President of Mess Committee (PMC) Red Task Force (Formerly known as Alpha Company) of my intake. I learned many things. Working under pressure is normal in military life. Military personnel should accept that way. This year, I ran another SST; I had the chance to throw the grenade, shooting using heavy weapon at Asahan, Malacca. What I can tell you, it built up my confidence level. What an adventurous experience!

Happy after being 'taji'... Time kerja...kerja lah..

3rd year in Computer Engineering course, I enrolled this year with a great achievement. Alhamdulillah, I successfully scored 4 flat for my GPA in 4th semester. What a miracle! I would like to thank my lecturers and friends for this achievement. Consequently, I was appointed as overall senior under officer (chief Of (CO) cadet). It was a responsibility. I didn't expect that I will get that rank. Getting rank is about you sacrifice your time to learn in pressure situation. However, it was a valuable experience. At the end of this year, I had my practical training. This 2 months period was a 'civilian' period. My friend and I rent apartment at Shah Alam. I practiced at company that provided the GPS for patrol car at Selangor. I ate more without exercise; therefore, I managed to increase 14 kg in my weight. MasyaAllah. Practical= obesity. hahah...

Rank Given Parade

In 2008, I was already 4 years here. At the end of this year, my management and science skot (intake) will be commissioned. They run just a 4-year program. As an engineering student, we have extra 2 semesters@1 year. Padan muka. In 7th semester, I finally failed to maintain my 1st class degree after 7 semesters did that. So sad! However, it just a pattern of my life. Life is so colorful. Alhamdulillah. At least, we learn from our lesson.

And today, I would like to congratulate my friends who are constant in this field. Believe that, the stories among us will be remembered for the rest of our life. Happy 5th anniversary intake 2004! All the best to engineering cadets who will face the final exam and final year project presentation soon. We have faced 10th semester here. Don’t add any. hahah. Prepare for the worst! More you sweat in peace, less you bleed in the battle field! ATMA-UPNM is the best!

Outing...

Last Sunday I got outing. You know what. This is my first time outing ever after my VC transition. First time get out and get in with UPNM's bus. It’s a crowd cadet with just two buses. Thank GOD. UPNM's cadets were really patient with this facilities’ shortage. Working under constraint is much appreciates able gentlemen.

As far as I’m concern, the hot spot for cadet for outing is not far apart from KL. The places where are easy for public transportation (LRT,Putraline, Commuter etc..etc..) like The Mines, Mid Valley, Sogo, Masjid Jamek and so on. Because of it is just 8 hours outing, I decided to go to Masjid Jamek area. I planned to buy my new leather and sport shoes. It is already old the current one. Moreover, because of this is the first outing after my salary bank in, I decided to call my sister because she want to lend me money. "I want to buy my new external hard disk" She said to me. Okeh.. No problem.. Cadet is a rich student. hahah.. “There is no such university in this world that give their student RM1500 each month with free accommodation, issued uniform, receive bonus annually, receive cola (cost of living allowance), free study fees. But then, you are not so thankful" Said my officer one day. Something to ponder my friend.

As I called my sister, she said she was at KLCC. Hurmm.. No need lah to bank in that cash. I asked her to meet me at Masjid Jamek. Finally, I met her at Pustaka Indonesia. After a short discussion, she decided to follow me buying my new shoes. "Okeh, lets go to Bata, then we go to Sogo, there is Sale there" I use my autocratic order. Hahah.. Abg Askar.

At Bata outlet, I took 10 minutes to survey those shoes. So many people, the promoters had not enough hand to serve the customer. I tried one sport shoe, looked interesting. I asked size 7 for my foot. During my waiting, I saw one girl persuaded her father to buy one fashionable high heel. Waa.. Short girl with High taste. hihih... KL girl I thought. She cried and screamed as to win her parents heart. Waa... I remembered when I was a boy, I did the same thing. So childish... And I didn’t know how embarrassed my parents were at that time. You know what, I thought my parents were so cruel.. No mercy.. At that time lah...

New age, new approach of children education!!! Cute but high taste..hahah

Now, I realized, it must be the reasons behind. They know how to teach their children about waste, about to consume moderately, about pampering children. I was so immature son. Always judge something using my childish view. And now, I gradually learn how to be a good parent. We will know how hard the parents sacrifices when we have our own children. I pray to Allah for my parents peaceful and prosperous. May I will be a good father too. InshaAllah.

At last, I didn’t buy any shoe there. No size. I went directly to Sogo. There was a Sale. So crowd!!! I decided to finish our window shopping at Secret Recipe. “Next time lah”. Mission Failed. I knew, Secret recipe was definitely destination for our outing. My sister love to eat there. Outing is equal to a lot of eating. Just to redeem my failure mission may be. And then, tension is also equal to a lot of eating. Lastly, I got new equation. You know what. Outing is equal to tension. Haha. No comment.

Oklah. Just want to share those things. I’m so busy with my documentation of my final year project right now. Wish my project succeed. I want to be commissioned this year. Want to be a good officer and a good father too. Watch out!!!

My Lost

In a hectic situation right now, I enjoy playing football. After I got spirit using my new boot. The D-Day finally came. Yesterday, my course 4 SZC (Computer Engineering) versus 4 SZM (Mechanical Engineering). It ended up with my team lost 1-3. So sad maa... The first half ended up with 4 SZM led 2-0, when the 2nd half started; I sub my friend, Shah as a striker. Haha... what the player!!! (Scream like actor in slum dog millionaire). Alhamdulillah, I finally scored my first goal for my team. The result was 1-2. Just after that goal, 4 SZM has tried so many times, as the result, they scored another goal. Hurmmm... It seem like everybody has lost their spirit. (Can't be commando lah). The result stayed until the final whistle blown out. Instead of our lost, I would like to thank my friend who assisted me to score our single goal. Thank you everybody. Good game, good try, good performance... What the players!!!

My Team

Last week, I had shooting training. What a special in this event? I shoot with my new vision after my LASIK surgery. I know you know my shooting result right? . 5 years in cadet’s life, Styer AUG rifle is just our expertise (no arrogance!). We used to experience the condition where there were so many bullets but then, we don’t have the ability to shoot continuously. Thus, on that day, I taught my juniors how to use this rifle. They were so exited, I was so happy to teach them. I know how excited they were because I had my excited experience too when it was the first time. “We are soldiers gentlemen! Prepare for the worst, comfort is not essential.”

Super Duper Senior

My English performance, I feel more confident to speak in English. However, I realize that I must have extra effort in improving my English. My target is to speak confidently and fluently and to have a good writing skill before commissioning. Actually, I had group presentation on Engineering Ethic last week. I presented in English. What I can conclude is, I have difficulty in finding the right word and consequently, I have so many pauses. It looks unprofessional. The second problem is my presentation is dull because of my stiffness. Hurmm.. I still don’t satisfy with my proficiency in English. Therefore, keep on practicing Muadz!!! Man Jadda Wa Jadda…

My Overnite

I got overnight stay out... What the relief! My overnight started at 1000H Saturday until 2200H Sunday. I hesitated to go out at the beginning because of a lot of task to be done and it was just 36 hours outing. I didn't plan to go out. Hence, I didn't have any place to sleep on the Saturday night.

A piece of my past leave... Finally..

As the result, I asked my KL’s friend about that. You know what? He recommended me to join one special and bless program. Haha... It was MABIT@Qiamullail... MABIT stands for Malam Amal Bina Iman Taqwa. That program was organized and attended by students those came from universities in Malaysia. I met new friends. What I can describe was it was really wonderful knowledged-event. It was not just spiritual occasion, but the combining of IQ, EQ and SQ. Free of charge man! I will miss all those memories together.

Riadah@Mabit

Besides that, I did shopping. haha.. Long time maa I was not "jalan-jalan cari pasal" at KL. Consequently, I bought my new accessories to play football. The fact is my course (4SZC), is already qualify to cup competition after the league round. Cup competition is for the best 4 teams out of 7 teams competed. The other teams play for plate competition. You know what? I used to score a winning goal when my course versus aeronautical course. Haha. Good started after a long break from LASIK surgery.

Preparation to win..hahahah

Hurmm... Tomorrow will be my loving prophet's birthday. I remembered one points in a talk given by one PhD student at my MABIT yesterday. If we love someone, we will voluntarily to have joy and pain moments with that person. We will memorize his/her love letter; try to act like him/her as to make a situation of "sehati sejiwa". You know better lah. hahaha. My point is, as we just say literally that we love our prophet. Then, should be, we must interpret it by our actions. This point was rising up when he asked who was here that memorize the second hadith (about Islam, Iman and Ehsan) in "Hadith 40" book. Ashamed on me! I must do something in order to prove my love to Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. . I really need internal strength. InsyaAllah. Do you know that one verse of Quran states?

Lo! Allah and His angels shower blessings on the Prophet. O ye who believe! Ask blessings on him and salute him with a worthy salutation [33:56]

Motivator and Promoter

I have just arrived from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP). Why I have been there?? It was because there was the Expo "Jom Masuk U" which was organized by Ministry of Higher Education. So tired lah! I really don't imagine that I will be there this weekend. This is the soldier is all about (VC statement??). I only knew that I need to go there 2 hours before I departed. That time was 1600H; I was at SK Danau Perdana, giving the motivation talk to students standard 5 and 6. I was very happy to give something to them. It was something meaningful experience and it recalled my nostalgic memories when I was studying in primary school. Thanks to my lecturer who has given this opportunity to me.

After the motivation talk, the headmistress spent us "jamuan" at school canteen. Suddenly, my HP vibrated and I look at the screen. My officer was calling! (What else?) I received his call and I mentioned that I was outside the camp giving motivation talk. He said " Go back to camp now, the VC has ordered you to go to Pahang today till this Sunday. Dato' Seri Najib was there. Prepare your bla..bla..bla.. and a transport will fetch you at 1800 in front of the mess". Hurmm... last minute order again. haha... zassss...

With "Angkasawan" @ UMP

We were there only to promote UPNM, but, my officer said, Dato' Najib want to meet us. I don’t know why. At last, we just shake hand with him and that’s all. Hahah. He looks cool (may be politic teach him to be like that despite of the unstable politic condition). Congratulations to him because of he will be a prime minister soon. When talking about politic, I always remember the quotation from my first prime minister said “Politic is a dirty game" How dirty? Go and involve in politic and you will know it. No offence!!

It is already March. This semester will end up soon. I hope I can finish my final year project as soon as possible. Go… Go… Go!!!
